San Vincenzo training camp and Tour Down Under. In January, Lampre-ISD was involved on these two fronts. General manager Giuseppe Saronni observed both activities of the team and these are his comments on the start of 2012 season to Lampre-ISD website:   “As in the previous years, the season began very soon, so in January we are already deeply involved in races.

No rest in the weekend for Lampre-ISD’s athletes in San Vincenzo training camp.   The blue-fuchsia cyclists pedaled also on Saturday and on Sunday, but the trainings had a pause when general manager Saronni reached Residence Riva degli Etruschi in order to meet the team and to talk with the riders, especially with Cunego and Scarponi.

Two podiums in the first big race in 2012 for Lampre - ISD captain Alessandro Petacchi.   After the second place obtained in the opening stage of Tour Down Under (February 17-23, Australia, WT), Alessandro Petacchi (on photo © Sirotti) ended his first experience in the Australian race conquering the third place in the 6th stage (Adelaide Circuit, 90 km).

ISD Sports club received a letter from the International Cycling Union headquarters located in Switzerland. Upon reviewing the report done by the SC ISD CUP race (XCO C1) Commissaire, UCI has noted the high level of competition organized by SC ISD and has not mentioned any points that could be improved.

German Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) has taken his second straight win at the Tour Down Under, and his first on the road for the season, with a photo finish sprint over Italian rider Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre-ISD, photo © Sirotti) in Clare.    Petacchi benefited from a perfect launch from teammates Davide Vigano and Danilo Hondo and was very close to winning the stage.

January is full of holidays. Today is the birthday of Elena Dorofeeva – the doctor of ISD-Lampre Continental cycling team, specialist of a high class and a charming woman.   ISD Sports Club, cyclists and all staff members of ISD-Lampre Continental team send Elena their congratulations.

One of the stars in the galaxy of outstanding Soviet cyclists of the 1970s, Yuriy Zayats celebrates today his birthday!   The 55th anniversary of this well-recognized cyclist is a special event for our club. Yuriy Zayats is the sports director of ISD-Lampre Continental cycling team, a longtime friend of SC "ISD",  а person of ready sympathy and great charisma, without whose contributions our riders would not achieve such good results in 2011.

Lampre-ISD’s cyclists welcomed the thoughts by team leader Michele Scarponi about his choice for Grand Tours in 2012.   The first comment was by Diego Ulissi, who pointed out that it is his will is to support his team mate, whatever the target may be. ”I think that to support a captain, be that Cunego or Scarponi, and in the Giro or the Tour, is an exciting challange and a crucial time for my growth as cyclist,” he explained.

Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre-ISD) will target the points classification at the 2012 Tour de France and has admitted that he is likely to forgo the Giro d’Italia in order to reach July at the top of his form.   With Lampre’s Giro squad likely to be built around Michele Scarponi’s overall aspirations, Petacchi is set to miss the corsa rosa to prepare for a tilt at regaining the green jersey he won in 2010.

Alessandro Petacchi will begin his 2012 season at the Santos Tour Down Under in January. He will be joined in a strong Lampre-ISD line-up by Australian Matt Lloyd, who signed after being released by Omega Pharma-Lotto earlier in 2011, reports Cycling News.   “The management staff floated the idea of the starting the season in Australia, and after thinking about it for a while, I accepted the opportunity with interest,” Petacchi said.

Representatives of Sports Club "ISD" are among the candidates for the 30th Summer Olympic Games in London in 2012.    The names of potential Olympians representing Donetsk region were announced at the recent Donetsk Region Sports board meeting. At the meeting the preparation of athletes for the Olympics was also discussed.

Lampre-ISD young star Diego Ulissi dreams of Worlds selection after taking the biggest win of his career on stage 17 of 2011 Giro, reports Cycling News.   “I’m asking for another step forward from myself,” the young Italian told Gazzetta dello Sport. “I know that people expect a lot.

Congratulations to Dmitry and Anna Krivtsov on the birth of their daughter!   This morning was very special for Lampre-ISD's cyclist Dmitry Krivtsov. His wife Anna gave birth to the baby girl! The little girl was born around 10 a.m. in Donetsk, Ukraine. The parents haven't yet decided upon the name.

After its victory in Astana during the first round of the series, Germany, with five gold medals over the weekend, easily won this Colombian round of the 2011-2012 UCI Track Cycling World Cup with 93 points, in front of France (71) and New Zealand (48).    In the medal standing Ukraine, with 1 silver and 1 bronze won in Cali, is 12th, which is higher than strong teams from Australia, Poland, Russia.

What is the future of "VeloKraina" project? Is it possible to supply roads with bicycle lanes in our conditions? Are there any chances that the long-awaited cycling track in Donetsk will be built? The finish didn't quite play out according to Omega Pharma-Quick Step's pre-race plan, but the Belgian ProTour squad is hardly complaining about the outcome of stage two at the Tour de San Luis.
